Welcome to the Linwood Street Hockey website!
Linwood Street Hockey will provide and instill a
positive atmosphere of sportsmanship, respect for coaches, officials and
opposing players, as well as competition, challenge and fun while learning and
playing the game of street hockey.
We are volunteers who provide you and your children with an
activity that we believe should be fun. This organization will
only be as good as its participants, their parents and spectators.
The Linwood Street Hockey program was formed in the 1970's with the help of Mr. Frank Bakos and other parent volunteers. With the destruction of the hockey rink due to a small tornado and later a fire in the early 80's, the program was reborn in the late 90's with the help of Mr. Mark Battista. The program used a portable rink that was taken down after each season and consisted of about 150 participants from Linwood and Northfield.
In 2006, a formalized board of directors was formed and in the summer of 2012, the program was able to purchase and install a new regulation size, permanent rink. The program now serves over 400+ participants, living primarily in Linwood and Northfield but drawing players from Longport, Margate, Galloway and Upper Twp.
Linwood Street Hockey is a co-ed recreation program for children ages 4-15. Four divisions include Chipmunk (4-6 yrs old) which play in the fall, Penguin (7-9), Beaver (10-12) and Cadet (13-15) which play in the winter. There is also a travel team (try-out based), which primarily plays in the months of February and March at local and state tournaments.
